What is an Independent Physiotherapist

An independent/private physiotherapist is someone who sees clients either in a clinic or in the client’s own home.

We tend to work predominantly with physiotherapists who support both children and adults who have sustained a brain injury and require specialist physio.

The treatment the physiotherapist may provide could be:

  • Exercises
  • Personalised gym programs
  • Games that help with doing the exercises
  • Education of postures and movement
  • Mobilisation and stretching
  • Activities to carry out at home
  • Use of equipment (e.g.) gym ball, standing frame, walking frame
  • Hydrotherapy and water based activities
  • Advice regarding horse-riding and rebound therapy.

Many of the physiotherapy companies we support gain their work through Brain Injury Case Managers, who instruct the physiotherapy to visit a client in the home to carry out an initial assessment, following the client’s acquired brain injury e.g. following a road traffic accident.

See this link to a typical children’s neuro physiotherapy company to see the variety of conditions they treat – https://www.physio4kids.co.uk/children/

It could be supporting one physiotherapists who has their own practice or a company with a team of associate physiotherapists – all needing our virtual admin support.
